      Sigh… Yet another reminder that Chomsky, who is certifiably brilliant, could really have been something when he stepped outside his area of expertise (linguistic theory – for which computer scientists will still remember him hundreds of years from now).

      What is it about the real geniuses that takes them down a path of intellectual self-destruction late in life (Newton with astrology, Einstein with mysticism, Dawkins with misogyny…)?Report

      Whether the quotation is one of those times depends on whether we view it as aspirational or as descriptive history.Report
