We have been experiencing some system resource issues. We believe the problem may be resolved, but if it is not please bear with us.

Love the bands you mentioned (Gaslight Anthem, Frank Turner) I’m not sure your aware but there’s loads of bands like them still just no so easy to find. Check out The Smith Street Band, Restorations, Signals Midwest and The Menzingers if you are a fan of the Springsteen tinged Punk Rock style.Report
Thanks for the tips! I’m not familiar with those specific bands, though there’s obviously quite a few bands I didn’t mention but am familiar with. None of them are, of course, topping any album or singles charts. But it’s still good stuff. Rock may be buried in the popular imagination, but it’s good to know that there will always be people who keep its spirit alive.Report
I can second that Restorations (LP3) as decent. You might also like The War On Drugs’ Lost In The Dream (I gave it a shot, because they are pretty universally acclaimed, but as I feared was unable to get past The Boss-ness of it).Report
Mark Thompson in Empire Records….Report
More seriously,
I think plenty of rock is being made but it is largely more fractured and people will debate what is rock. The split probably happened sometime in the early 90s with Nirvana (cue the Wrestler with Mickey Rourke blasting Nirvana as not really being rock music). I imagine No Cities To Love is going to sell pretty well this week.Report
Mark, for what it’s worth, I’m still listening to Meatloaf when I happen to be a hair tipsy.

I don’t know whether to call my tastes something under the umbrella of “rock” or under the umbrella of “crap that old people listen to” but… seriously, I can’t help but think that those folks who listen to Bieber have less of a pallet with which to paint with than us old folks.
It ain’t about the depth. Everybody has that. It’s about the breadth of the vocabulary.Report
