Well, the illumination part would be trivial today, what with LEDs and all, probably even do POV displays with the lights. Not sure if the transparent, or even translucent, rubber would be wildly expensive, but with the availability of hydrophobic coatings, I bet we could keep it clean enough to work.Report
Illuminated hubcaps seem like the better option. There are plenty of such things for illuminating the spokes of bike wheels.Report
You get something similar — lots of cars do it now, in fact — just by running LED’s on the body. The tire’s don’t light up, but you have lighting and a rather nifty glow.
I’ve not personally seem rims done that way, but I suspect it might be possible. (The wiring would be…interesting, actually).Report
Illuminated rims & hubcaps would be a lot easier.
Ground effect lighting works too & gives you the illusion of hovering if you do it right.Report
Pretty simple, actually

Fancying up a car these days seems like putting lipstick on a pig. Most of the cars are so unattractive I wouldn’t want to be seen in them….and they are all sedans. ugh.Report
