You Can’t Carry That On Campus!

Just the other day I was wondering ’round these parts why we don’t mix sex and other stuff more often. While I was thinking mostly about markets, this will do just fine, just fine indeed:

Sex toys to replace guns at UT-Austin campus carry protest.

If you haven’t been paying attention to the news, Texas’ legislature passed a law making it legal to carry a concealed firearm on Texas college and university campuses. The reaction at UT has largely been critical, with one professor very publicly resigning out of concerns for his safety.

Regardless of what you think of the law, it must be admitted that this particular protest is ingenious.

Please do be so kind as to share this post.

    • I wondered that same thing….my assumption is that if I started carrying a huge dildo around a college campus, I’d be protested pretty quickly by some of the same people who are using dildos, to protest guns…maybe I’m wrong about that.

It would be pretty funny for each protest, to be trailed by a smaller protest.

      • Interesting.

I have a pretty good idea who’ll be vehemently opposed to this protest, and I wasn’t really thinking “SJW.” The Facebook group for the protest has a pretty good selection of those who don’t like this in comments, though I fully expect some religious groups to speak out as well.

        • Oh, no, SJW’s won’t protest this use of dildos, that’s not what I am saying at all.

What I am saying is, if someone brought a dildo and started swinging it around for some purpose of their own (say, to draw attention to Men’s Rights or something), the *dildo itself* would be posited as emblematic of all that was wrong with that person, and their position.

Their use of a sex toy would (IMO) likely be seen as offensive, misogynistic, and possibly akin to a veiled rape threat.

But it’s still just a dildo.

  1. I am assuming the author of the article enjoyed writing this sentence:

“Jessica Jin, who set up the “Campus (DILDO) Carry” event on Facebook, invokes the argument that allowing more guns on campus will make students safe is a fallacy.”

    That’s a Schilling-worthy pun, that is.
