Here’s the name of the new game: “Tyranny”.
Here’s how they’re selling it: “In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won.”
As far as I can tell, the conceit is that you are one of the proverbial “baddies” and you have won the War and it is Over and now you just have to go out and about and pacify the barbarians.
They’re coming out and saying “this is not just another Hero’s Journey”.
Which has me, right now, saying two things:
1) OH MY GOSH SHUT UP AND TAKE MY PRE-ORDER MONEY YOU AND CD PROJECKT ARE THE TWO COMPANIES I STILL TRUST
and
2) Oh, jeez… You’re going to try to make some kind of important socially relevant point that will be sour by halfway between here and Halloween, ain’t cha?
Which makes me swallow all of my everything and ask the question: “How much do you trust Obsidian?”
And, at this point, we’re to the truly troublesome part of the post. How much do I trust Obsidian?
Man, Fallout: New Vegas was the bomb diggity, wasn’t it? Man, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was the bomb diggity, wasn’t it? Man, Neverwinter Nights 2 was the bomb diggity, wasn’t it? Man, South Park: Stick of Truth was worth playing through once, wasn’t it?
So, after weighing all of the evidence… I’m going to get it.
But, seriously, Stick of Truth had a handful of problems so, lemme tell ya this, Obsidian: I’ve got my eye on you.
So… what are you playing?

Tyranny certainly looks interesting. I don’t really like the pauesable real-time thing, but I’ll give it a look after it comes out.
In any case, I wouldn’t be able to play it right away anyway because in 6 days Civ VI comes out and I’ll be spending much of the next few months playing that.Report
Stardock had a similar idea with Sorceror King – kind of like XCOM2, you basically start as a guy who lost a 4x strategy game and have to try to defeat the guy who won.
But for now it’s more WoW Legion, and buying pieces of a new computer to play the new Shadow Warrior, which according to RPS is all that and a bag of chips.Report
Definitely looks interesting. I’ll have a look when it comes out. Right now I’m learning what a massive cheat save scumming in XCOM2 was and I’m trying to beat XCOM2 on Veteran in Ironman. Turns out that when you play the game the way the devs intended, it’s a lot damn harder. 🙂Report

At a gaming con this weekend. Just played Blades in the Dark for the first time.
It’s an RPG set in a dark fantasy city where you play a gang of scoundrels pulling jobs and angling for more territory and power. It’s fun and flavorful and does a lot to keep the game moving instead of getting bogged down in planning and caution-play. Does a great job of presenting the setting quickly, and looks to be very hackable.Report
