Some Moments in the Life of the Consort of the Priestess of Bast

Jaybird

Jaybird is Birdmojo on Xbox Live and Jaybirdmojo on Playstation's network. He's been playing consoles since the Atari 2600 and it was Zork that taught him how to touch-type. Frack. Either it just got super dusty in here or my allergies kicked up big-time.

I remember similar with my parents’ last two cats – yes to the whole “thin as paper” thing. And yes, they do let you know when it’s time.

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve been through similar and it well and truly sucks.Report

      Thanks.

(I feel bad because this is at least the second “cat dying” essay I’ve written and it might be the third. I don’t want people to feel like they’ve tuned into a channel that could play that Sarah McLaughlin commercial at any second!)Report

I’ll be honest – I didn’t read the whole thing because I can’t. I can’t because I know I’ll be doing the same exact thing as you* probably not this year, hopefully not next year, but quite probably sometime in the next 3 or 4.

*including the angle of being the consort of the priestess, someone the elder found favor with eventually, even when set in his waysReport

It is sad, truly sad, to lose a companion and my heart goes out to you both.

But damn if the fine writing isn’t a silver lining. You’ve truly got the heart of a poet Jay.Report

Amazing stuff, Jaybird. Truly. What you did up there is an example of the essential and highest use of language: giving expression to our deepest emotions. You did it well.

Add: sorry ’bout the kitty. The pool of sadness from losing a loved one is overflowing.Report

Natasha and I wept freely and openly when it was time for our Sassafras. I know just how you both feel. Be strong, hug one another frequently, and love up on the remaining critters.Report

    • Jaybird in reply to Burt Likko says:

I’ve been checking on them all between the various dishes I’m making in the kitchen. “Put me down”, I’m sure that three of the four are thinking at some point in my visits.

      Thanks.Report

I just don’t want them to hurt. Because they can’t tell us where it hurts, and we can’t tell them why it’s happening or when (or how, or whether) it’ll feel better.Report
