In an illustration of the extent to which the 20th century broke all categories of art while paying tribute to the past, it’s worth noting that Von Menzel’s painting is deliberately referenced in the most horrifying scenes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

(The chicken room to freezer scenes, for those who’ve seen it.)

That’s interesting, Patrick. Not really a horror film fan, myself….but I can certainly see how this piece might make its way into horror film scenes…
