yack-batas

by Chris Dierkes on August 6, 2009

As per Jaybird’s recommendations, I tried a workout of tabatas today.  I did it slightly differently than his version.  The one I did is 20 seconds on (full energy), 10 seconds rest, 20 second on/10 rest for 4 minutes.  I did alternations of high steps and pushups.  And also per Jaybird’s recommendations I had a bucket at the ready just in case.  Which in my case came very close to being necessary–although I managed to keep it in.  I msut confess I died on the last set of pushups with about 10 seconds left to go.  Next time Gadget.  As a bonus my ears are slightly plugged today (I think the barometric pressure dropped rather suddenly as its much cooler today) and so I’m breathing so heavily now it’s echoing in my ears in a weird Darth Vader kinda way.  “oh pa, ohhh pa, Obi [Jay] Bird has taught you well young Skywalker.”

I hated doing tabata… but I loved having done it.

The only couple of times I’ve ever come close to puking during a workout was during a couple of high-intensity boxing sessions and once when I took a class and they made us run wind sprints while dragging a partner behind us with a rope.

I’ll have to try this for my cardio on Saturday.

While we’re on the subject again, does anyone have any recommendations for good core strength exercises besides the usual woodchops, planks, etc? I’m doing a 3 month program and i’m 2 weeks into Part 1 which is Core Strength and I’m getting really bored with the exercises.

Have you tried throwing a really big tire around?

The kettlebell exercise “Turkish Situp” is also a good one (youtube it).

turkish situp does not sound like an exercise. More like something out of Midnight Express.Although I bet TE Lawrence enjoyed some Turkish situps.

YES! Turkist getup. That’s what it was. Yeah. I think I could do about 5 before collapsing in a heap.
