Getting the Job Done

“We have not been committed to a deadline. We’re committed to getting a job done[.]” ~ Sen Chuck Grassley on health care reform.

Which is a nice example of rhetorical acumen, but isn’t a big part of getting a job done meeting, uh, deadlines? I’m not saying that health care reform and the Senate’s contributions should be rushed, I’m just saying that, as far as I know, a job without deadlines isn’t, you know, a job.

But you keep on truckin’, there, Senator Grassley.

A cynic might point out that committing yourself to getting the job done without committing to a deadline is a nice way to pretend you care about reform while simultaneously creating enough delay and obstruction to cripple any chance of actually creating reform.

Not being a cynic myself, I would never accuse a prominent Republican of playing a game like that.
