Inane Bleg for Vegans

No snark intended here, but what is the vegan position on flu vaccines that rely on replicating the virus in chicken eggs?

“If Allah wills that you die of the flu, you will die of the flu! What is the use of a vaccine?”

Why Allah?

YHWH isn’t as funny and, while Jesus is as funny, Jesus wouldn’t be as funny in that particular joke.

Depends on if you are a (Francione/Regan) rights-based vegan or a (Singer) utilitarian-based vegan.

If the former, then taking eggs from chickens is wrong, end of story. Eggs do not belong to us. And of course the industrial mechanization of egg production with its well-documented abuses (overcrowding, beak amputation, etc.) is also inexcusable.

If the latter, then it might be justifiable if a strong enough case can be made that without large-scale immunization we will have a mass pandemic and even greater death and suffering. The industrialization still presents a huge problem.

This ignores the regrettably-large percentage of vegans who also buy into various forms of anti-vax and other alt-med woo.

Who cares what vegan’s think? If they don’t like it , they don’t have to get the vaccine.
