Philip Caputo writing on the Mexican drug wars in The Atlantic. Brilliant (and horrifying) stuff. There’s no good guys and bad guys. It’s not entirely clear what the motivations of any of a number of groups are–there are theories as you will see in this piece. But nobody really knows. John Robb calls this many vs. many conflicts. It’s brutal and stupefying.
Update: D’oh. Apparently Will already beat me to the punch on this one. What he said.
Borat: “I do a picture, only small, of the Tishnik Masacre. Where many Uzbeks…crushed!”
Kindly Gray Hippie: “How did you feel when you drew this?”
Borat: “Very proud!”.
KGH: “I’m just listening with sadness…a little sadness for your people…?”
Borat: “Yes…no, it is not sad. It is us who do the kill!”
When in doubt,

Indeed, I strongly recommend the comments there. Roque especially has some incredibly interesting and detailed thoughts up about Mexico and the drug war.
