The Best Cover of All Time, Volume XVI

by Will on December 16, 2009

At the risk of “los[ing] serious street cred with [his] friends,” Mike D. nominates Glee’s (admittedly catchy) cover of “Don’t Stop Believing” and Damien Rice and Ray LaMontagne covering the Bee Gees’ “To Love Somebody.” Since we’re on the subject of guilty pleasures, I thought I’d throw in Wyclef’s cheesy version of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.” Finally, honored co-blogger Dierkes diversifies our genre selection with Toots and the Maytals’ rendition of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

The Cardigan’s version of “Iron Man” has a special place in my heart. And if you’ve ever heard of the Youngblood Brass Band, they have a kick-ass version of “Human Nature” (the MJ one–they call it “Human Nature Pt 2″). But best cover of all time? I have to nominate RHCP’s cover of “Love Rollercoaster.”

Man Man covering Etta James is just perfect.
