Prince Charles, Crunchy Conservative

by Will on February 4, 2010

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but Prince Charles’ nascent crunchy conservatism strikes me as emblematic of that movement’s worst features, from the vague noises about “harmony” and “natural order” to a near-total cluelessness about the lives of regular people.

*sigh* Chuck’s never been the sharpest fork in the drawer. My paternal Grandmother (a staunch Canadian Royalist) kept a photo of the Queen on her writing desk. When I asked her why once when I was youg she told me it was to remind her to wish the Monarch a hundred more years of prosperous rule whenever she prayed. Now I’m no praying person but I inherited my Grandmothers fondness for dear Queen Bess II. May she live long enough for her Grandson to take the throne if not for another hundred years.

She doesn’t have to outlive her son in order for William to be the next sovereign, isn’t that the current understanding?

The rumors swirl but I haven’t heard anything concrete about Charles agreeing to step aside.

Interesting. I thought it was done.

From your lips to my agnostic God(ess?)’s ear.
