The Coffee Party

by Rufus F. on February 27, 2010

Tired of hearing about the Tea Parties? WaPo introduces the “Coffee Party”, which aims to “promote civility and inclusiveness in political discourse, engage the government not as an enemy but as the collective will of the people, push leaders to enact the progressive change for which 52.9 percent of the country voted in 2008.”
All fine. But where’s the liquor-based political discussion group?

I hereby formally announce the formation of the Scotch and Cigar party, where elitist policy wonks and intellectuals discuss matters of politics and policy outside the reach of ordinary, “real” people.

I counter with the Wild Turkey and Marlboro Light Party.

Wait. We already have that. It’s called college.

Hahahahaha that would be the PBR and bongs party, Sam. Either way, I’m in like Flynn.

With that line you have hit on one of the great shortcomings of the blogosphere.

When I was at university in middle Virginia, we lived in an apartment complex that overlooked a tobacco field across the train tracks from a brewery. The good part was that cigarettes were less than $2/ pack and I was still smoking them. The bad part was the ever-present weird smell.
