A New Class War?

by Mark Thompson on July 12, 2010

Ross Douthat’s column this morning calling for a small-government class war against the wealthy is provocative and well-worth the read, even if it is a bit too lenient towards Republican politicians.  His underlying point is something that I’ve been trying to get at for quite some time.

I’ve always like Douthat’s approach of using the tax code to make necessary reforms. I also like the idea of following the money on subsidies. The scenario he points out where tax payers end up loaning the money to foreign countries to buy American-made goods is insane. Clearly why I always had trouble with macro economics. It always feels like a shell game in the end.

@Mike at The Big Stick,

That’s beacuse it is. As far as I can tell, macroeconomics would be completely incoherent without the monopoly on banking held by state-sponsored currencies.

That’s a class war I can get with, right there.
