Friday Afternoon Jukebox

by Tod Kelly on September 16, 2011

I don’t know how things are in the rest of the world, but in my corner it looks to be sunny and beautiful but not hot; what’s more, we’re going into a weekend that I really, really need.  My oh my, life she is good.

If Rufus can buck trend and bring out the blues, I figure it’s ok for me to do the same with some swing.  So here are two great bits done live – which is the way you should hear swing.  First, a mighty back and forth with Wynton Marsalis and Trombone Shorty.

And a bit of something similar with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy doin’ the Jungle Book thang.

And of course, an open thread.

There’s snow on the peak!

The peak of what?

The Peak of Pike.

So does this lead to Jaybird and Maribou pulling the skis down from the attic?

I see “outside” as “the place you can still smoke”.

I have quit smoking.

In the spirit, here’s a performance by March Fourth, a Portland-based marching band/performance group (they have stiltwalkers, fire eaters, etc during their live shows). Any west-coast based people should check them out–I saw them at Bumbershoot this year and they’re excellent!

One Dem finally tells what she really thinks, Americans don’t deserve to keep all their money. Nice, I guess she assumes that some bunch on Dems in DC know better how to spend it.
