Patrick is an about-40 year old geek with an undergraduate degree in mathematics and a master's degree in Information Systems. He has worked in IT in Southern California since 1993, and is currently working on a Ph.D. in IS (albeit very, very slowly). He is married, with two kids, a spaz of an elder dog, and 1 new extra-needy dog who was supposed to cleave unto the wife because she rescued her but who loves him instead because he is the God of Small Creatures - or so says the wife. He's been a board game player since he could walk, a poker player since he was thirteen, an amateur card-counter, and has had Strong Opinions about video games since 1980. He claims no party affiliation. Nothing he says here has anything to do with the official position of his employer or any other institution with which he may have an affiliation.

But I do confess that our friends and allies in Japan have come up with something I’m compelled/appalled enough to hide behind a link.
The only consolation is that there’s really nothing to be done for an encore. ( 42 comments)
