Romney won’t condemn booing of gay soldier

by Elias Isquith on October 4, 2011

Maybe they were saying “boo-urns”?

I struggle to imagine that Mitt Romney doesn’t actually find the booing of a gay soldier to be reprehensible. His unwillingness to say so, however, is a sign of just how tenuous is his support from the GOP base, and how deeply concerned with scaring them away with occasional bouts of reason and decency he is. Being him in these situations must be a bit like going out to get some drinks with your boss and having to hide your shame and disgust as they become belligerently drunk and yell incoherently at the bartender.
