Mary, I'm pretty sure you made EVERY one feel old earlier this week.

I have the MOST fun leaving my comfort zone, though in reality I am probably just moving to different subregions of my comfort zone. It's pretty big to begin with.

Sorry I can't make Leaguefest, but I hope you all have a blast. We're having a house warming party/ Memorial Day cookout (I refuse to call anything without at least 16 hours of smoked meat a "barbecue") at the new house with apparently 14+ overnight guests. Things are gonna get weird... in a great way! First of them arrives tonight, so we'll probably spend the next 48 hours drinking and watching playoff action. Wahoo!

ARGH!
Generally speaking, I try to connect issues in sports to broader topics to make them more accessible, but sometimes they will just be chalk talk. Please check back! Would love to have you participate.

Hi Mary!

Sorry this post didn't resonate with you. I will say that this is probably the most "sports-heavy" of the sports-themed posts I've done here, so please don't tune them all out. Generally speaking, I try

I think you're both right. Generally, I'm not a fan of "tradition for tradition's sake", but there is something truly special about March Madness brackets. If I'm ever sports czar, I'd probably move to have all leagues BUT the NCAA re-seed. The NCAA tournament is flawed in so many ways from a "competitive" stand point, but amazing in so many ways from an entertainment standpoint and I think it has come to represent something unique in American sports culture and should probably be left alone (though I'd go back to 64 teams and eliminate the silliness of the "opening round").

I might write a post on this, as I think fitting this into a broader dissection of playoff procedures will give us an idea of league does the "best" job at crowning a champion. I alluded to it in my post on the NBA draft, with a hunch being that it is indeed the NBA, but more analysis is required.

I know nothing about sports, and when I say nothing, I mean NOTHING! But I read through this entire post and the comments because I like MD and was hoping that it would make sense eventually (no such luck). It is like a foreign language I have never heard before. In exchange for the torture I subjected myself to, I now feel entitled to leave a comment. So there! ;p

One, peppermint schnopps and Dr. Pepper sounds terrible. Two, I know it is time to stop reminiscing about 151 and the good old days when I remember I was 15 lbs. lighter and drank regularly. Thanks for making me feel fat and old, Will ;).

The worst case I ever had was Peppermint Schnopps & Dr Pepper. It was years before I drank Dr Pepper again, and it had been a favorite up to that point. I've gotten more drunk than I got that night, but never suffered much afterwards.

I'm reminded of a funny story that I just had to mention while I'm here. I went out drinking with a friend after work. (I know it is Thursday, but it's been a tough/awesome! week.) On the way home the radio played two songs back to back that made me laugh; Katy Perry's, "I Kissed a Girl" and Hot Chelle Rae's "tonight, tonight".
Really? You want to play those songs one after the other?

You know, now that I think about it, back when I drank 151, I was fifty or so pounds heavier than I am now. And I drank a lot more and a lot more regularly. Drinking 151 now could be a mistake.
